Mr. Simons is a 1999 graduate of Hope College with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. He holds a Michigan Professional teaching license and National Board Certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. He has taught students in 2nd through 5th grade in Michigan, North Carolina, and the United Kingdom.
In his teaching career he has come to many conclusions, but two ideals that he holds onto strongly are:
He and his wife, who is also a teacher in TCAPS, enjoy the outdoors, spending time with family, and being wildly entertained by their dog Elliott, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and his fiesty feline friends, Macy and Winston..
In his free time, Mr, Simons enjoys playing guitar, working on electronics, and working out doors, Mr. Simons is an avid fan of the Detroit Lions, even if they don't always win. He says, "I am loyal to them like I am to my students, because like my students, I believe in their potential to succeed."
In his teaching career he has come to many conclusions, but two ideals that he holds onto strongly are:
- When learners feel capable, confident, and cared for, they contribute.
- When you laugh, you feel better; the better you feel, the more your can learn.
